A huge thank you to everyone who came to the Summer Tournament Finals weekend; to drink, celebrate, and offer outstanding support to our finalists!
Saturday kicked us off with a highly competitive Women’s Singles final – congratulations to Carolina for winning the title on her debut. Commiserations to Bridget.
Unfortunately, the Men’s Singles final was unable to go ahead, but congratulations to Dave Willford for defending his title.
This was follwed by the Junior tournaments. This year we had 4 different age groups on finals day under 8s (mini Reds), under 10s (mini orange) under 12s and under 16s (Rod Swan). The players have all represented the club well throughout the year, playing internal tournaments, attending weekly coaching sessions, and playing in junior leagues. Showing a good commitment and attitude towards learning the game.
Our under 8s were James Broad, Victor Elson, Jao-Kun Hill and Elliot Thompson Blake. They all played well on the day with James winning all 3 of his matches.
Our under 10s were Miles Aldridge, Thomas Broad and Ruben Duncan. With everyone winning a match each this one went to points with Thomas getting the most.
Our under 12s were Joseph Tingay, Louie Osborne and Gethin Harris With Gethin winning both of his matches well done.
And Our under 16s were Yusuf Qazi, Mackenzie ward and Archie Baker. This was a fun one they all won a match each so had to count the games. With Archie coming second and Mackenzie and Yusuf joint 1st. I asked them to play a tiebreak to decide a winner. The boys shook hands and said they would share the trophy.
Mixed Doubles Plate was unable to go ahead as well, so congratulations to Rich and Julia Barnes the winners.
The Mixed Doubles final closed the day, where Elle and Dave went one better than 2021 and won the title. Commiserations to Joe and Millie.
Sunday’s entertainment commenced with two marathon Single Plate finals. Congratulations to Sue Beavis and Fergus who triumphed in their respective matches. Commiserations to Sarah Rawcliffe and Martin Almond.
The Men’s and Women’s Doubles rounded off the weekend with Matt Thompson & Adam Smith and Laura Spragg & Hayley Butler winning their respective finals. Commiserations to Joe Hewlett & Rich Barnes and Elle & Bridget.
Congratulations to all of our Summer Tournament Finalists, we look forward to celebrating with you at Presentation Evening on Saturday 19th November!
